William has been growing and growing as usual. At his 4 month check-up, Will weighed in at 18 lbs 9 oz and was 27" long! His doctor tells us that each of these measurements currently put him in the 97th percentile. It's funny when we bring him out to see people or when we drop him off at the nursery, because we have to make sure they know he's still only 4 months, no matter how big he may look (meaning, I don't want them assuming he's developmentally capable of more than is appropriate for his real age). :)
His doctor also suggested something that I was definitely not prepared for. Solid food feeding. Now, I knew that some people began this as early as 4 months, but I was expecting to wait until he was 6 months. :( I don't know why it makes me a little sad that this is something the doctor thought we should begin... perhaps it's a disruption in the routine that I was just beginning to get the hang of... perhaps it's a step toward his independence from nursing. Either way, I've bought the rice cereal, but I haven't begun the feeding yet. I guess I'm still hesitating. The pediatrician said she was suggesting it because of (1) his size (I've heard time and time again that bigger babies demand more food) and (2) his nursing schedule during the day, which has been about every 2 hours (she told me most babies his age last 3-4 hrs between feedings). She thought that introducing solids may appease his appetite for a longer period. So, it's exciting, but also a bit daunting. As draining as nursing can be at times, it's also relatively easy compared to preparing foods and spoon feeding.
Well, my sister, Kathy, and her husband, Jeff, came out to see us recently and I have some pics, but unfortunately they'll have to wait for another blog as I've kept Will waiting long enough with the mobile. :)
